Reporting an error

Use the contact page and choose “Correction to an article.” Please include the article title, the passage in question, and, if possible, a source that supports the change.

How we respond

1. We check the claim against the cited sources and additional primary or institutional sources.
2. If the error is confirmed, we fix it in the article and update the review date.
3. For substantive changes, such as a wrong date, name, attribution, or conclusion, we add an entry to the log below.
4. Minor fixes, such as typos or formatting, are made without a log entry.

When history is disputed

If a reader points to a real scholarly disagreement, we may add the debate to the article instead of replacing one account with another.
