Editorial policy
The standards every article is written and reviewed against.
Purpose
We publish accurate, readable explanations of how technologies developed and connected. We aim to inform, not to promote any product, company, or viewpoint.
Sourcing
- We prioritize archives, museums, libraries, universities, technical and scientific societies, public laboratories, and peer-reviewed literature.
- Each article closes with a list of sources. We do not rely on encyclopedias or anonymous websites for facts.
- We do not copy passages from other works. Text is written in our own words, and we do not attribute quotations we have not verified.
Accuracy and disputed history
- We distinguish invention, prototype, patent, public demonstration, and commercial adoption, because these dates and credits often differ.
- We avoid single-inventor narratives when a technology emerged from collective work, and we note priority disputes instead of settling them by assertion.
- Where dates are uncertain we use ranges or “c.” (circa), and we do not invent precision.
Recent topics and predictions
For recent developments we state what is known as of the review date shown on the article. We do not present forecasts as facts.
Authorship
Articles are published under the GPTSheild Editorial Team. We do not create fictional authors, experts, or testimonials, and we do not claim credentials we cannot document.
Independence and commercial content
No article is sponsored. We do not accept payment for coverage, and we do not disguise promotion as editorial content. The site currently carries no advertising. If that ever changes, advertising will be clearly labeled and kept separate from editorial decisions.
Images
Images are used under licenses that permit it and are credited on the image credits page. Photographs are captioned as illustrative when they do not show the historical object or event itself. Diagrams are original.
Updates and corrections
Every article shows its publication and last review dates. We revise articles when better evidence or sources appear, and we log substantive corrections under the corrections policy.
